Last week on the campaign trail, Marois was firm on these points:

Quebec would continue using Canadian currency

Request a seat at the Bank of Canada should a sovereignty referendum end in a "yes" vote

The border between Canada and Quebec should also remain open if Quebec secedes

    1. technically correct, we can't prevent it. Lots of places use either the USD or Euro as local currency.
But they have no influence on the monetary policy of that currency.

    2. Fuck off

    3. Which does not mean the ROC cannot put border posts up.
That could happen if this separation gets ugly.

    4. Passports.
An excellent opportunity to change the Canadian citizenship situaition, to either be Canadian and only Canadian, or not.

Once again, Quebeckers get fed only one version of
separation, the one that is most palatble to them, full of lies and half truths.

    *sigh*

The assumption they seem to be making on the "open borders" is that all Quebecois will retain their Canadian citizenship in the event of independence.

    Somebody should correct them.

I don't think that it matters to us what currency an independent Quebec might use. The U.S. greenback is another possibility for them. There is no mechanism to stop that. What will matter to us is their "demand" that they have some say in Bank of Canada policy. Why would we surrender any of our sovereignty to foreigners?

Since Canada allows dual passports and citizenships, they are correct that all
Quebecers who are Canadian citizens on day 1 of separation, will in fact be able to stay Canadian, with full rights to passports, CPP (as in QCers working outside QC), OAS, the lot.

The current rules will only affect children born in the future, and that can be overcome easily enough, with 'open borders', those who want go to Ontario or New Brunswick to deliver children. Instant citizen.

They would use our own rules to abuse us until we change them.

After a "yes" vote separation needs to be negotiated (on day 1 after a yes vote Quebec will still be a province), and I have no doubt that the issue of citizenship will be on the table.

Canada should make it clear that an independent Quebec can't have its cake and eat it too.

I think that tariffs would have to place on any exports from the country, and the revenue from said tariffs would pay off the remaining debt they owe the ROC.

The following statement directly from the Quebec 'think tank'.

"So it was not a surprise to me. I did not discover he was a sovereigntist, I knew that. If he was to run, that I didn't know."

This guy needs a serious slap upside the head!

    What tariffs?

As it stands, with an unseparated Quebec, it is cheaper to ship via US then through Quebec to the coast.

The First Nations in Quebeck would have the right to choose to go with Quebeck or Canada and it stands to reason most of the FN - if not all of them - would choose Canada and cause that map to be a lot more pink than it is in this cartoon.

Needs to include the First Nations land in northern Quebec as part of Canada, since the did re-soundly vote (96%) to stay apart of Canada if Quebec decides to go bye bye, or should I say au revoir.Needs to

Exactly. Most of Northern Quebeck will remain in Canada if the various tribes decide to stay. Just as the Quebeckers have a right to self-determination then so do the First Nations.

... and, of course, the U.S, will secure the St. Lawrence Seaway system that is the access to their northern coast ... and I sure wouldn't' blame them for it.

Back in 1995 the Cree Nation held their own referendum and voted overwhelmingly 96.3% to remain in Canada.

    First Nations vote
