Roberto Luongo has finally been traded by Vancouver, in a deal with Florida that sees goalie Jacob Markstrom and forward Shawn Matthias come to the Canucks.
Maybe that's why he didn't play the outdoor game. There's no way you start a rookie and sit him even if he's sucked form months.....which he hasn't. He was very upset about not playing but held the party line throughout the interview. Think his wife is from there so it's a good fit for his family.
Well at least that's done. Sad to see him go, but I'm sure he's happy to not be the middle of a shit storm anymore. It is hilarious that he and Thomas are on the same team. It kinda makes me wonder if the Panthers could possibly make a Cup run soon.
This is just more proof that Gilles is one of the worst GM's in hockey history. He got nothing for Schneider and still ended up trading Luongo. The other GM's in the league have played him like a fiddle but he still doesn't get it.
Should have expected it I guess, but no, I'm shocked.
What did we get for him though? Not much, at first glance.
Standing at 6’6, Markstrom was a monster in the net and after staying in Sweden to play in the Swedish Elite League for two years; by the time he left he was dominating the European league.
But since he has made the transition to the North America in 2010, he has struggled to find a solid footing and three seasons later has yet to make an impact at the NHL level.
Matthias is a 6'4" centre, so that's a need but he's only scored 9 goals this year in 59 games. Although he did score two goals and a helper last week against the Islanders. So I don't know.
It's interesting, because Vancouver originally got Luongo for Bertuzzi and Florida traded Bertuzzi to Detroit for Matthias so it's a circle, I guess.
Maybe this is more about creating cap space, but they still have to pay 800 grand on Luongo's contract. (That's just what they pay next year).
And concerning Gillis, and how much patience we should have with him, in the immortal words of Porky Pig:
Well if we are to believe Elliot Friedman's version then it looks like Lou made the decision to move on because he wasn't going to play the outdoor game. Which means the Fonz is still an ass. http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/hockey ... nucks.html
Hope they got another deal planned, because Lack and Markstrom likely aren't the pair to backstop you to a Stanley Cup.
I don't expect much from the Canucks for a while. They don't have much of a team. The talent they do have doesn't want to be here.

So is now the time to pack up on the Markstrom experiment, and look to ship him elsewhere to be another team’s problem?

Agreed. The end to all that drama that seemed to surround him.

That is interesting isn't it? So, who would be considered "#1" ?

Kept the cupcake twins 2 years to long. I would trade one to Dallas and one to Montreal.
Nothing but dumb deals from this guy including an idiot coach added into the mix. Tough time to be a Nucks fan
I withold judgment until 3pm today.
And now?
Hit with the Stupid Stick me thinks.
