I'm thinking Lockheed Martin is probably privy to some info that the Canadian Taxpayer is not.

We are buying these birds wether we like it or not.

I'm still thinking you folks would do better with an upgraded run of the CF-18.

The '35 is a turd sandwich with wings.

Indeed. It's the best option, and most cost effective as well.

Euro-fighter or Sukhoi or Saab?? Inquiring minds want to know the Canadian Feelings. The US can offer State of the Art F/A18 F/G variants and there proven. You have the infrastructure already, that saves more money of the Taxpayer's of Canada. Go oversea's your cost will balloon worse then the turd F35 beer can lol.

I'm rather fond of a look at the Typhoon.

I think the US has had it's chance and shit the bed.

F-18's were state of the art in the 80's and 90's. Jump back to the late 70's when Canada ran the NFA program. The F-18 was very new and unproven when we made our order. Hornets were being delivered to Air Command in '82 before the USN or USMC declared the Hornet operational. We were one of the three launch customers.

If we had the same "go with old and proven" view back then that some are advocating now we would have been stuck flying upgraded Starfighters or Tiger II's instead of the Hornet.

I had to think about the Typhoon for a minute. I have a friend with the RAF who is one of the Lead Engineer's. I do agree the Euro fighter is a excellent contender. Can Canada manufacturer her under license and upkeep without the cost ballooning?? Believe me i'd rather see Canada with a Euro Fighter before the Rafale stinking snail cheese jet.

    Why, because it's French?

The French are able to produce a new fighter. Why can't the US?

I personally like the look and capabilities of the new Sukhoi, but I doubt there is the climate for it. Too many people still stuck in the cold war.

At the end of the day it's the air forces decision. I just hope whatever we get now can be supplanted by something better a decade down the road.

There are one or two people on this forum who have flown on Russian aircraft.

As I recall, their opinions of them (quality/workmanship) were not favourable.

As well, I think Lockheed Martin is probably privy to some info that the American taxpayer is not.

And also the American taxpayers are buying them whether the American public likes it or not.

None of these multinational corporations have any particular allegiance to any particular nation. Their profits are offshored to whatever banking haven they find suitable, and their interests are aligned with sales, not nations.

They might find it more, or less, convenient to have a corporate headquarters in, say, Toronto or New York, but that's about it. And their lobbyists will haunt Ottawa, Washington, London, or Berlin irrespective of any identification with their corporate office building location.
