The Conservatives have hit their lowest level of support since the last federal election, a poll suggests, leaving them statistically tied with the Liberals and just a few points ahead of the Official Opposition.
30% said they would vote for the Liberals, 31% for the Conservatives and 27% of the NDP. Of the remaining parties 6% would vote Bloc Quebecois and 5% would vote Green.
However, if Justin Trudeau were the leader of the Liberals, the numbers would go their way far more favorably. The Liberals would get 39% of the vote, according to the poll. Under that scenario, paradoxically, the Tory share of the vote would also go up, hitting 32%. Taking the biggest hit would be the NDP, which would get just 20% of the vote.
People are pointing out how politically savvy Trudeau has been in this leadership contest. Nobody's touched him, he's signed up a huge whack of supporters and has a very strong organization. He's been planning this run for a long time. Just as with Brazeau, he's surprising people with his staying power. I think any election will still be Harper's to lose, but the longer a govt stays in power, the more the mistakes keep piling up. And there will be Justin and the Libs, likely a plausible alternative again.
I don't know about politically savvy.. He does a lot of dumb stuff. None of it sticks to him for some reason though.

"Certainly when we look at the great prime ministers of the 20th century, those that really stood the test of time, they were MPs from Quebec … This country — Canada — it belongs to us."
On the gun registry: "I voted to keep the firearms registry a few months ago and if we had a vote tomorrow I would vote once again to keep the long-gun registry." He made the admission during a campaign stop at a suburban Montreal mall. Also: "The long-gun registry, as it was, was a failure and I’m not going to resuscitate that."
Liberal MP Justin Trudeau called Environment Minister Peter Kent "a piece of s---." This came during a heated debate in the House of Commons over Ottawa's decision to drop out of the Koyoto accord. Trudeau later apologized.
My favourite:
While speaking to Catholic youth who were about to receive the late Pope John Paul II Justin Trudeau urged the youth present to reject 'old men with old ideas.'

If he was a conservative making comments about Alberta over Quebec he would have been tarred and feathered.
