People who have recently purchased washers or dryers from Kenmore may have bought a new feature they didn't even know existed: an appliance that can talk on the phone.

Strange since Kenmore is the a brand name for Sears and not the actual manufacturer.

Folks shouldn't get their hopes up to high about buying that sale model washer and dryer and then having it talk on the phone.

I seriously doubt very much that "all" Kenmore washers and dryers have this feature. It's likely the rebranded high end models made by LG that they're talking about.

LG’s SmartDiagnosis technology lets washers and dryers chat to technicians over the phone
    From a Gizmag article August 10 2010.

That's odd. I thought the last thing even inanimate objects like washers and dryers would like to do would be to talk to Kenmore. 8)

Lightweights. Why not build in a nerd stick that you can just plug into your puter. Pull up the website's customer service and have it read the diagnostics off the stick.

(Like I'd have any clue how to actually make that work.)

How about something as simple as a USB port?

Unfortunately, that's as far as my creative genius goes. Someone else would have to figure out how to make it work.

I'll question my phone bill from now on if I see XXX maintenance calls made at $9.95 per minute. 8O

Does it take all the spam/advertisement calls for you? Than I'd definetly buy one. "hello?", "Bzzzzzzzzz", "Would you like to buy this lowprice object Sir?", "Bzzzzzz".

I agree with earlier posters...it seems like there are easier ways to keep track of appliances from far away (like having a usb port)...I mean, you can unlock your car remotely, shouldn't you be able to troubleshoot your dryer from a distance?

The only thing I want my washer and dryer to tell me is what it did with my socks!

THAT is the best idea yet!

You will be a very wealthy man if you can solve that mystery.
