Jeeez, when I went to school, we all gave Valentine cards to each other(you weren't allowed to give any if you were going to exclude a specific student was the only rule), up until about Grade 3 or 4. We were even allowed to bring treats and sandwiches to share with each other...stuff that contained egg, dairy, gluten, fish and yes...prepare yourslves.....PEANUT products. We exchanged cards and food.

Nowadays, you can't even give kids b-day-party invitations at school. You might exclude 20 kids!! :?

"Ashcombe is a primary school and they believe that children under the age of 11 are still emotionally and socially developing and therefore cards declaring love can be confusing.

Ummm, I have yet to see valentines designed for kids to declare love, they have little syings on them but no "I Love You".

I think this teacher isn't emotionally developed enough to be a teacher, probably was one of the kids in grade school that didn't get alot of cards herself, then again it goes into the same principal as not holding kids back and babying them for fear of hurting their frigile little egos, no wonder mental illness is on the rise, our shools are raising a bunch of kids that can't cope with the real world.

This PC crap is getting to be way too much...at least they called them Valentines day cards and were not forced to call them holiday cards....

Hmm school is supposed to help prepare kids for real life. There is rejection in real life all around us. I guess school is not doing its job then.

I know I know, big revelation. No shock at all when many schools are adopting no fail policies, officially or unofficially.

Guess what, in the grown up world if you suck at your job you get canned and any companies not cleaning house of dead weight because they don't want to make people feel bad by canning them are going under.

It's really starting to look like private school for our kids, even if its pricey.

R=UP No shit eh? Lack of rejection and failure as a child is just as bad as too much.

I remember in elementary school that we would all decorate our own "mailbox" to put on our desks then everyone in the class would walk around and deliver their cards. I think we had to wait until evreyone was done before we could open our mailboxes. I'm pretty sure that everyone gave everyone else in the classroom a card, but if not I don't recall there being a big deal about it. For kids Valentines Day is just another occasion for "special" candy and to make stuff with paper and glue.
