"When men proclaim themselves to be absolute masters of themselves and sole masters of creation, can they truly build a society where freedom, justice and peace reign?,"
Umm ya, isnt that what most democratic counties base their constitutions on?

It's also called: "People are waking up and realizing that they don't need religion to be good people, to be happy in their lives, or to explain thigns that they don't understand."

I think a better question is, when men proclaim themselves to be bound only by the perceived will of their personal God, can they truly build a society where freedom, justice and peace reign?

My question: How many godless Popes have we had to endure?

We as a society have had to endure the unpleasantness of many "Godless" Popes but that part of history is convienient to forget for some.

I am still trying to understand the concept of a "Godless Pope". Isnt being a follower of Yahweh kind of prerequisite for being pope?

Lately, yes. But to the Medici's, the only quality that mattered was fealty to their family and a lack of aversion to depravities that would have made Caligula blush.

Actually I think he's referring to anti-Popes, Popes who acted in their own self interests instead of the interests of the church. Wiki probably has a few listed
