 OTTAWA - Canada's economy shrank 0.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2008 from a year earlier - marking the first decline in nearly five years - as the manufacturing sector continued to weaken, Statistics Canada said Friday.

btw, here in Calgary housing sales have slowed down to where developers are now not able to sell out new condo units within the first few months as they once did.
Housing and economy are getting closer to a recession in Canada because the U.S. buyers of lumber, autos, trucks have slowed down.
Canada is very much dependant on the U.S. economy, even if we want to think we can do without them. You can thank NAFTA for that.

maybe this is all just a little hysteria-mongering.
I also laugh at the idea that the "green" economy is going to somehow bring prosperity to all Canadians. Most likely, a very small few will make a huge ammount of money and the rest of us will be picking up their discarded cans by the side of the road.
