"Meanwhile, Vancouver Police spokesman Tim Fanning said he doesn't believe Huang is known to Vancouver Police. He said investigators will start comparing notes with other jurisdictions today."
When I read this comment I instantly thought, "someone's playing poker here...". It's good to know that they don't spill all that they know and who they know it about to the media.
Anyone who reads this and thinks that they don't really know anything about a gang of that size in the city of Vancouver should have their head shaken vigorously. LOL! But for a city the size of Metro Vancouver, 2,187,721 (estimated) which is half of Metro Houston's population it is VERY good to see that the homicide rate is only at number 18 for Vancouver Metro.
Oh well, as to the gangster, you live by the sword, you die by the sword.
Good riddance! hopefully this "gang war" will make our streets ultimately safer... although it wont be much of a war until 100s are dead and the city's number one imports become weapons.
When do they escalate to public bombings like in Quebec or random shootings like Toronto? This is somehow good for the public safety?
We get cars stopped almost everyday with guns or drugs on board. Is there any doubt they are a part of this? Where are all the people who forbid law abiding Canadians from owning handguns but who also refuse to punish hoods for crimes with guns and drugs?
These are the same usefull idiots that want to decriminalize drugs without any controlls or restrictions on the gangs that supply those drugs.
This is not Vancouver.. This is Madness!
It seems that some action is coming out of this...
What's largely fuels street crime isn't just specific crimes like drugs, prostitution or loan sharking, it is also the juvenile criminals that older gangsters recruit because they get lighter sentences...
Strengthen the young offenders act, enact special punishment for gang related offences (such as, anything of a violent nature) and the juvenile loses the protection of anonymity in the media and the public, he automatically receives a one year sentence (on top of anything else he'll get) with 12 months of probation afterwards (also on top of any other probation he'll receive). By taking these kids out of the "gang loop" you radically reduce their effectiveness to a gang. In essence, the kid will only be good for one or two crimes (until he's caught). Which is not at all like the young offenders act I remember from when I was working in Saskatoon where a kid just ran wild and no-one knew what he did, he didn’t have to worry about public accountability, taking responsibility and they’d just laugh at their sentences.
The kids at school, the parents and the teachers as well as the community will know WHO this kid is and the gang won't be able to operate in the shadows the way they like.
This is not a fool-proof suggestion, but it's better than just sitting around and doing nothing.
This latest joint taskforce, special, rapid deployment, Srg. Prestons Flighing Squad, or whatever they call it just looks like an exercise in PR and no closer to a solution.
I agree with you, Kevlarman. We're reasonably good at catching them but they don't get punished.
