A World War II-era B-17 bomber with 13 people aboard crashed and burned at the Hartford airport after encountering mechanical trouble on takeoff Wednesday, killing seven of them.

    I?ve been aboard that airplane many many times what a heartbreak, exceeded only by the loss of all those lives.

    My dad is a retired FE who worked on engines and aircraft for many years. He believed the problem was contaminated fuel, he had that happen to him in a DC 7, fortunately they were able to get on the ground okay.
