It's a shame we can't close these free trade deals because they are extremely important to Canadas future economic survival, we are basically going to be crushed without these deals in place. It will harm Ontario (and Toronto) the most by a country mile as we are an overpriced province that can't draw investment even with the lowest taxes and a very low Canadian dollar. With the impending bankruptcy of Ontario (probably within 10-15 years), some of these stronger economic jurisdictions would be wise to avoid trade with us.
Any nation looking to do trade with Canada would be doing a major disservice to their domestic businesses if they didn't have grievance process that allowed for and protected whistleblowers. We allow government to interfere in the free market and right of determination of both citizens and businesses, one would have to be ill informed to think their nation would get special treatment from Canada.
Just ask America how strong an "ally" Canada has been...
Oh, and as an aside, I quickly checked my emails and see that two months ago I emailed Minister Didier Reynders (among others), ccing our public safety minister, PM and Christina Freeland regarding CETA, providing the usual details and warnings to them regarding the free trade process with Canada. Outlining what I have experienced and the steps I took to try and remedy the situation domestically.
As always, I stated that I strongly support free trade but not free trade that does not allow for recourse for nations such as Canada to skirt the rules and rule of law as they have with NAFTA since it's inception. If this deal fails it will speed up Ontarios insolvency time period in half. Especially since TPP is already on the ropes, which is almost as important as this deal (I say less important because Japan and others in the TPP are far more interested in trading with the U.S than Canada).
Good work Canada, you ruined the reputation of a country for a long time
"BartSimpson" said I'm curious, do you want Canada to join the EU and depart the Commonwealth?
I want Canada to open up trade avenues and support the Rule of Law. If we want to remain a Commonwealth nation I couldn't care less, I personally don't see the Queen as someone who impedes in my life (unlike some agencies) so why would I truly even worry about that technicality?
Bottom line, we have been stabbing allies in the back for a long time, I happened to be privy to this and I don't want any other nation to go into an agreement with Canada without the proper protections for their industries. How could I look myself in the mirror and call myself a good Christian if I supported old Communist ideals of persecution and abuse over those of democracy, liberty and justice?
Let's be clear, we need free trade, I want us to have free trade. Trade without barriers and tariffs which are job and investment killers. Canada hasn't made any friends with their treatment of certain Canadians.
Ironically I was about to email certain members of the Irish government last week who voiced displeasure with the CETA agreement. I might hold off for a couple of days and see how the dust settles with this.
The way I see it, with Canadas reputation between the OPP and RCMP and the rest of the *cough cough "security apparatus", any agreement signed by Europe will quickly become buyers remorse in a couple of years anyways.
Hey, Canada should feel lucky, at least it looks like we won't have to deal with Trump. of course, the far left will be pushing for their agenda to be enacted also, so it's going to be a long eight years for us.

If you figured this on a link I posted from the World Bank you figured quite wrong, especially with my track record. One doesn't pursue their MBA and argue aggressively against a covert operative who tried to generate interest in a union if I am not supportive of anything but the free market. This means, low tariffs, low taxes, freedom of capital to invest and most importantly as I have NOT been allowed to experience freedom of citizens AND businesses to self determination. Freedom of businesses inherently requires freedom of citizens.
Canada did this to themselves. There is no way on Gods green earth anyone should be opening up trade agreements with a nation that skirts laws that other countries cherish dearly. These nations, their citizens and their businesses need to know the severe risk they take on doing business with Canada when there are insufficient checks and balances for state abuses. Our allies will continue to understand the risks.
Bobby Paulson and Vince Hawkes should pony up and save Canada's economy. They did a hell of a job ensuring it will fail. With the history of the OPP and RCMP I wouldn't expect anything less.

Well, I posted the link, but yes. Based your track record, you say one thing but somehow advocate for the opposite.

And how many times now have I shown you economists and reports that say the TPP and CETA will both have negative effects on the freedom and economic well being of Canadians? They will not 'create a free market', they will further reduce market choice while undermining democracy. That's what happens when you let business author trade deals like NAFTA or SPP. "Jelly beans". You remember Montebello, right? SDQ posing as protesters? Does that ring a bell?

Why would we have to depart the Commonwealth?
Because sooner or later the EU would require it. They hate Britain and forcing Canada to cut ties with the UK would please Brussels.

Well, the Commonwealth is a fusty old thing anyway. Don't really want to be in an association with nations like Pakistan.
Can't argue with that. Not at all.

It sounds like you need both a job AND a hobby.

See, that surprises me. I figured your support of the TPP and CETA meant you were against 'free' trade and against jobs.

Gawd, it was better when Fabrikant was here, at least he could post
coherent thought.
