Ford Canada has told a Newfoundland and Labrador woman who has had ongoing issues with her hybrid vehicle that she hasn't been using the gas engine enough — which she says defeats the purpose of owning it.
She needs an electric car and not a hybrid if she's just driving a very short distance. Or she can get off her fat ass and walk. Either would be a solution.
The range of an electric hybrid is about 30km just on battery at lower speeds. So she may be driving more than a km or two. Then there's the things you need to carry, kids, etc. Or you don't want to arrive a sodden mess at a function in the wonderful Newfoundland weather.

Yep. Just buy a small gas car like a Honda Fit. Or, as you say, a full electric. But I don't know how well they do in a climate like Newfoundland winter - what kind of range they have with the heater and headlights going. The Chevy Bolt looks interesting for an affordable car with decent range and a bit of room in the back.
Just wait until Ford negotiates with the union. She can then really have a reason to complain when the province and federal government have to pony up a few millions to Ford as they did with GM. Pretty sure not doing so would result in a lawsuit under NAFTA regarding certain provisions.
She has the car from Ford, complains, and some of her tax dollars will go to the very company she is angry with. Go figure.

I don't know how you can stretch like that without pulling a muscle.

Yeah and? It's Ford's fault she's an idiot? This isn't a problem that's only associated with hybrids. Take pretty much any ICE and run it on short trips in the dead of winter and you're going to wind up with that sludge. Hell, I've seen it happen in Southern Ontario.
I have read the manual from front to back," Sweeney said. "There is nothing stating in the manual that I would have to do these things."
Pretty sure it's common knowledge that running an engine without letting it warm up fully can cause problems. Especially repeatedly. Something I hadn't thought of for a hybrid but it certainly makes sense.
All the manuals state to change the oil more often if you take frequent short trips. And as you say, it's common knowledge. But this is something that would seem to be worse for hybrids, so the manufacturers should put something in the manual. But then that would increase the vaunted low gas consumption, just as their highway mileage numbers are pure bullshit.
FFS what's wrong with people, have they just got BONE STUPID these days? Of course a motor needs to be run once in a while to stay in shape. FFS they don't know SHIT about the car they drive, the computer they run, how anything at all fucking works. Can't make change like a 7 yr old Chinese kid, can't read a round clock, go out for dinner half their lives and never even notice WTF the waitress DOES so they need to be trained from scratch when they start. You care to place a bet that Ford won't receive money from the province and federal government?
This isn't a stretch at all, in fact, it would be a stretch to suggest that Ford won't demand treatment similar to what GM received.
