Never really heard of him and I am a pretty big Beastie Boys fan. I was at their last concert in Toronto. They are way more musically talented than most rappers and all play multiple instruments.
John left them when they were still a punk band in 1982, he was replaced by Ad Rock and Licensed to ill came out in 1986 which is when most started listening to them.
