I don't see a problem here. There is nothing wrong with the anthem. One would think there are more pressing matters to attend to on Parliament Hill than this.

National anthems are silly. There's no need for them anyway.

How about we scrap all the lyrics and just hum along to the tune. That way no one can possibly be offended by any references or content.

Can we at least get a catchier tune in that case. I vote for Louie Louie. or the 5th.

Basically, what I'm seeing is the left complaining about Tory tactics while they themselves used procedural manoeuvers to speed the bill through. And why the rush? So that Belanger's dream of a gender neutral anthem can be realized before he dies.

Now, while I deeply sympathize with Belanger, ALS is a horrible illness, one has to admit that's a pretty piss-poor reason for trying to rush a bill through.

That's not the only reason. There's a significant number of people who want the anthem changed. I think it will happen sooner or later. If the Libs were really pushing this bill thru, they would have just had the govt introduce it. I'm sure there are enough Libs and Dips, maybe even the odd Con, that would vote for it.
