Silly cop. He should have moved to Ontario or joined the RCMP, this wouldn't have been news (unless he killed the guy and was caught on video).

Even if all forces adopt body cams, i doubt cops will wear them on sting operations just because it could comprimise their identity, so I think this stuff isnt going away anytime soon.

They do have super small cameras but it is still a risk that someone notices.

I saw an interesting article on the drop in crime rates in the US since the 80's and 90's and I feel strongly that the advent of camera phones, and cell phones in general are largely responsible for this. It is another dynamic that criminals have to work around when planning their crimes.

Just a bunch of thugs who happen to wear badges.

I would guess only uniform cops will wear the cams. But that would already make a big diff. The majority of cases you hear about are uniform cops using excessive force. The people who really need to wear them are the jailers (in the holding cells). Probably use some excuse of privacy for prisoners not to wear them.

I agree, except i would argue for fixed cameras. The technology is so inexpensive, it wouldnt cost much and regardless of the crime, the state is still responsible for the safety of the prisoners. It would make it easier to monitor prisoners, prevent escapes, murders, suicides, assaults and rapes. Every inch of every prison should be recorded.

Also every inmates would have a greater incentive to behave, which could have positive benifits.

There was a fixed camera when that RCMP shot Ian Bush in the back of the head. Funny thing, the camera wasn't working. There was also a fixed camera when the cops were all watching the two drunken women going at it.

I read that now having all cameras turned on at all times is a requirement in that precinct. I suppose the best way to ensure its not ignored would be to share the stream with an advocacy group of some kind, but then youq get into privacy again. Safety trumps privacy though, IMO and you give it up when you commit the crime.

Make under covers wear cameras. You would have more uncovers in prison than actual perps they are going after. Not to mention many of our allies would probably recall their ministers...
