    Greaaaaattt...we all know how well the other million indians are doing...the feds really need to step up with a solution that we and the indians support. This can't go on forever.

    There isn't one. What the FN's want is far more than Canadians are prepared to give. And as we've seen in treaty negotiations, the FN's refuse to put in an extinguishment clause, ie they want to be able to come back at any time and re-open the deal. The feds don't have the support of enough 2nd Nations people to take a tough stance, but if they caved to the FN's, 2nd nations would go berserk. If the feds were to be tough, the FN's would go berserk.

    Even Trudeau, with his sweet talk, knows there's no way he can afford what the FN's are asking, so just keeps putting out bribes to try to keep the natives happy, just like all his predecessors.

    How many generations removed do you have to be before you are a 'non-status' indian? :evil:

    This bullshit with the natives needs to come to an end. No more special status. Give them title to the land they hold and have them pay taxes like everyone else

    ++ OR ++

    Make them sovereign nations and cut them loose. No more welfare, no passports, nothing.

    This is an interesting ruling. I wonder what the definition of Metis is? This could get expensive really fast.

    This is a pretty popular radical stance actually, and it's the one I want. It'll never happen, but I'd like it to.

    Who defines the boundaries of these nations? In BC, more than 100% of the land is claimed by FN's. The courts have been quite sympathetic to giving then at least some control over their traditional lands, so it's not going to be just little postage stamp reservations that would be these "Nations." If the Squamish nation were to become truly sovereign, just based on the land it controls now, never mind what it would get in a land settlement, it could really fark around Vancouver and surrounding areas.

    Canada should be one sovereign nation, with equal citizenship for all. Settle the land claims with money. It would take a lot, but then the FN's would have no excuse not to be self-sufficient. Thing is, most of that money would probably be recycled into skeezy white man's pockets, leaving the FN's to become reliant on welfare again, while the white shoe and belt brigade is licking their lips at all the money they just got.
