Yeah but they only gave him command of a MCDV. I guess it really is a myth, what they say about Black men having bigger vessels.

He's in command of an MCDV because he is a reservist.

Now just hope his primary qualification for the job isn't the color of his skin.

Forgive me, it's my jaded American experience with affirmative action coming through.

I'm just used to people getting hired down here to fill a quota and then I get called a racist because I won't do their work for them.

It wasn't racist, it was an honest question. I have no doubt that he is qualified for his position, but it isn't always that way in the American military.

In fact, in the Canadian military a lack of French speaking ability will prevent you from reaching the upper echelons regardless of your performance during your career. Ive seen several officers careers stall due to not having a high enough language profile.

Down here if I ever got pulled back in I'd just say some of the things I write on CKA and they'd send me right back home again.

Because it's more important to be socially sensitive than it is to kill the enemy.

Yeah well that's standard. You can't be commander of troops you can't understand and who can't understand you.

And we have lost excellent leaders, and promoted lesser, based on language, and that's not right.

"Where the YT wimminz at?", bellows the new commander as he set his foot on the boat.

Well I feel the whole thing is political anyway. But maybe those excellent leaders should have made the effort to learn French. You don't have to be a poet, when a lot of the Anglo senior brass speak French, they sound like a severely brain damged Gerard Depardieu that's also gone completely deaf. So did Harper, who spoke almost no French when he was elected. But they went and learned it. Im pretty sure the GOC provides or covers the cost the course for career track professionals.

The pace of the army from 2001 until 2014 was brutal and prevented many good leaders from attending language courses while they were busy preparing to lead troops in combat and bring them home.
