You've got to be shitting me. Doesn't anyone do background checks anymore and if they do what do they entail? First the Deputy Minister of Education in Ontario and now this asshole being allowed around children just defy's logic.

I had criminal background checks done when I did WEB sites for private schools and daycares... and I never had any interaction with the kids. 8O

"A spokesman for the Office of the Fire Commissioner made a similar commitment.

"The Office of the Fire Commissioner has now committed to ensuring those checks will be followed for any new STEP student hiring where the position puts the employee in contact with vulnerable persons such as youth or other students," said the spokesman in a written statement."

This shows the danger of simply creating a policy - a policy is meaningless if there is no mechanism in place to check that the provisions in the policy are being followed.

I don't know about other occupations or jurisdictions, but we undergo criminal records and vulnerable sectors checks. On top of that I have an enhanced reliability check from the RCMP. It seemed more involved than when I received my security clearance from the military.....on board ship, everyone(including cooks and bosuns) had at minimum secret.

Your experiences are irrelevant. The issue is that these specific authorities didn't do any checking.
