Be nice if this bailed us out in the nick of time. Of course there are other problemns related to over population and consumption that will crop up.

Well there goes our oil industry. :(

Between people saying that oil could stay below $30 for years, and the pressure to reduce carbon fuels, we may just have to bite the bullet and get used to it. Try to create jobs in new areas, whether green tech, or who knows what. But it sure seems that the 21st century may not belong to Canada.

Hopefully it works like a charm and puts coal, nuclear, wind, and hydroelectric out of business as well. Be nice to see all those ugly windmills and earth - ravaging dams get torn down someday too. The workers in those industries will just have to take what's coming to them and adjust their lifestyle expectations downwards. Nobody's fault but theirs for getting into a dead-end line of work.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be really happy to see us stop using fossil fuels.

Thanos could always get a job mining dilithium crystals. :D

I believe in the Paris agreements there are actually provisions to help out workers in the fossil fuel industry that will be displaced.

Notice: This reactor was made in Germany. Not Sudan. Not Swaziland. Not Laos. Not Afghanistan. It was made in Germany.

Western Culture: It makes everything better.

Everything? Western Culture is what caused global warming in the first place. Western culture arbitrarily dividing up its colonies is what's been causing a lot of the unrest and strife in the world. Western culture took killing and hate to a level that makes ISIS seem like pikers.

Still, I'll take Western Culture and the hope of the Enlightenment over what else is out there. Given half a chance, I'm sure the other cultures would have behaved as badly. Just, you know, we shouldn't just uncritically pat each other on the back. "Mr. Gandhi, what do you think of Western civilization." "I think it would be a good idea."

Also of note, it didn't happen in the US. It happened in a nation which has taken the threat of GCC seriously and will likely Profit from taking it seriously.

If it were far, far away from this planet and all the smug idiots on it I'd be more than happy to relocate to do it.

I'm sure that's just luck of the draw. Many advanced countries are working on it. And it's not a done deal, afaik.
