The design for the Coast Guard's new fisheries and science vessels produced a ship so unstable that some engineers thought it was unseaworthy, and if sailed on the open ocean it would have capsized in heavy seas, CBC News has learned.
Thankfully there was someone awake at the Vancouver Shipyards (Seaspan) who was able to read blueprints, something it seems is beyond the designers of these ships at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans!
Who the hell designed that? ...someone's kid? I hope that the Canadian taxpayers got their money back for that bullsyte.
It looks seriously top heavy doesn't it? Even if it doesn't capsize in Sea State 5, the poor scientists on board 'll be puking their guts out in a heavy dew.
The problem was reportedly identified and corrected by engineers at Vancouver Shipyards
(OTTAWA) — The government's design for the Canadian Coast Guard's new fisheries and science vessels was so faulty that some engineers believed the ships would capsize in heavy seas, CBC News reported. The issue was discovered in 2012 once the blueprints were sent to Seaspan's Vancouver Shipyards. "We immediately set to work with our customer to correct the problem well ahead of the project's production design phase," Seaspan said in a prepared statement. "The (redesigned) outcome proved the value of collaboration with the Coast Guard."
It definitely does look to be top heavy. Hopefully the addition of the 8.4 metres to it's length will correct the problem.

I'm getting a little tired of these insults against Stokers!
Any trade that can be horizontal more than vertical while at sea is always gonna be subject to someone's wit, unless of course we're discussing the wardroom where it isn't wit but objective observation.
The Wardroom in that tub up above is going to have a lot of smashed dishes. If the center of moment is somewhere lower than the waterline, the movement at the other end of that "lever" is going to be violent. Wouldn't want to cox that puppy! You'd be thrown around like a rag doll in that wheelhouse.
The mop and bucket team will get an extra heavy workload on that bucket, especially where most of the barfing occurs. It looks like something that WalMart would sell as a bathtub toy for toddlers. Or it could star in Disney/Pixars new epic Boats!

Been there, done that, it sucked.
God, what an ugly looking boat.

I'm sure the added length will make a great improvement with that also, it won't look so squat.
