Let me start by going in the kitchen and cutting myself a huge piece of humble pie. Hell on second thought I will take the whole damn pie. When this story first broke, I gave the kid the benefit of the doubt. I did not like what happened in my country after 9/11. We turned into a bunch of pussies on the home front. It is still going on today. I have seen several stories in the last few days where brown skinned people who are doing nothing but speaking another language than English, or are watching news reports on their phone, have been asked to debark planes in the States. These are people who have cleared security. They and their luggage have been x rayed, and examined for explosives, weapons, etc. Because some paranoid asshole on the plane somehow feels "uncomfortable", these people have been asked to leave the pane. Some of these people have been illegaly detained, and interrogated by the FBI. These are the people who should be suing for 15 million.

When this story first broke, I defended the kid on this and other forums. I though it was a typical knee jerk reaction, the type that happens numerous times a day in my country. N. Fiddledog posted a good rebuttal at the time. No one (including myself) gave him the props that he deserved at the time. Because his source was not from a mainstream source (like CBC) everyone swept it under the rug. It has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ahmed Mohamed did not "build" anything. He disassembled a preexisting clock, and put it in a case to resemble something nefarious. He wanted to provoke the response that he got. He pulled it off. I was wrong. 100% wrong. N.Fiddledog was right. 100% right. The whole thing was a sham. This big payday was the eventual goal from the start, I say do not give them a dime. If any of his family is here on a green card, revoke it and deport them now. If they are citizens, charge them with criminal fraud, and put their asses in prison where they belong. I am tired of this shit!!! Anna Ayala got 9 years in prison for putting a severed finger in a bolw of Wendy's chili. I say give every one of these fraudsters at least the same sentence. Lock them up and then deport them.

Well rickc if you can prove him and his family knew that if they(since you want all of them to punished) went out and bought a device, disassembled it to look like a bomb and then he showed it to his teacher, who would the go apeshit, call the cops where he would then get arrested, then the media would pick up the story and it would viral and then they would be able to sue for a large sum, then I'm all for what you say.

And probably since they are so good at predicting whats going to happen, they probably know exactly what the outcome of this action will be too, wheter the city and school will pay up or if it goes to trial and exactly how much money they will get awarded. Doesn't seem too far fetched, since they knew exactly what would happen from day 1 ?

I'm putting it down to the suing culture of the US, where you hear about ridiculous lawsuits , compared to those this actually seems legit. Could be even some scummy ambulance chasing lawyer looking for a payday put them up to it.

To say all of this was preplanned conspiracy is bit of stretch IMO.

Sorry man, but Rick is 100% correct. The Internet had a field day with this, they even found the same model clock and did a dissection to show they were correct.

There was also a lot of background that his sister tried very similar things to try to get arrested, and when little Mohammed was arrested and they started taking the cuffs off, she had them put the cuffs back on so she could take a picture!

Yes, they did know. That's why this is a 'settlement' notice, "Pay up or we'll file a lawsuit." He's had his apologies, he's been endorsed by the POTUS, and heads of industry (priceless!) - but he still wants $15 million?

It looks very preplanned, right down to the facts that Mohammed now has taken a scholarship in Qatar, and his father might be looking at a third run for president of Sudan.

Don't feel bad for being taken advantage of for doing the right and moral thing. I'm sure most of us feel the same.

This kid has already had too much publicity.

Well I didn't know about the sister and all. So I guess there is something behind it all

No worries. At least you are willing to reconsider your position. ;)

Here's a dissection of the clock:

And a little blurb about the scholarships:

There was definitely an overreaction in arresting him, but that's what he was counting on. I don't think they counted on it going viral, and the consequences of that. The Internet does not suffer fools lightly.

And of course the media got right on the bandwagon instead of investigating a bit. Sucks when FD turns out to right. It will just encourage him all the times when he's not.

With the information coming out now, assuming it is solid and not just hype in the other direction, seems his lawsuit chances would be diminished. But then this is the US...

The school district might settle out of court for a lesser amount if that lesser amount saves them on legal costs.

As I am seeing on another forum it looks like there's several conservative legal foundations that are willing to fight the case for the school district at no cost to the school district.

If the little extortionist takes this to court he'll lose. He'll also make Obama and the California Democrat Party (yes) look like shitheads for taking his side.
