The Toronto Blue Jays pulled off a blockbuster early Tuesday morning, acquiring all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki from the Colorado Rockies, according to multiple reports.
I cant say I like this trade. Hoffman and Castro were both highly touted and surely could have been lure for an ace. Shortstop has upgraded, but both injury prone, both carry high salaries. Furthermore, Troy was in Colorado, one of the most hitter friendly park in the majors, he goes from grass to turf so he will be injured even more often.
Not sure why he didn't use the bluechips for a starter. Might have something else brewing, but it's very difficult to hit your way to a WS, let alone a pennant. Hawkins could be the quiet darkhorse for one season anyways as he has pitched well since coming back from injury. Two highly touted prospects is too much to give up in this trade, unless BJ's decided they see some weaknesses that others didn't.
Well, just checked espn, good details there that at least put it into better perspective.
This is probably a set-up trade, maybe they ship out another player such as Encarnacian for pitching. The Rockies apparently wanted Norris but "settled" for Hoffman. But the big stats between Reyes and Troy, Reyes is a whopping -28 in "defensive runs saved" while Troy is +13. Reyes has played only 1 more game than Troy, hit 23 HR's to Troys 58.
I expect one or two others to be traded for a starter, they absolutely need to get a #1 or 2 guy, both Bautista and Double E are up for F.A after 2016, best to trade EE now if you ask me. A bat with his power will be a premium.
