Federal 'tampon tax' to be removed July 1

The federal government plans to remove the tax on tampons and other feminine hygiene products, effective July 1.

"Under the Excise Tax Act, the GST is typically applied to "luxury" items not considered essential to daily life. But in trying to get the tax eliminated, NDP MPs argued that tampons and pads are essential for most women of reproductive age."

No fair though. If women get tax relief for tampons, we should get some tax love for our essential services...like, for example...beer.

Seems to me soap and asswipe should be on the list too. I'd rather have those and go without shaving any day. Prefer is others did the same.

Just make GST apply to everything already.

It had a lot of people seeing red, no more going with the flow. They had to rag on it for quite a while.

This is great news. I am a light sleeper and I think I may have found a cheaper alternative to earplugs.

Well I thought the tax was only there for a limited period.
