Oh I doubt either of those is going to happen. This isn't about issues, this is about empires colliding.

No, it's about China wanting to have an empire in a world where empires are a thing of the past.

I'd suggest those fake islands would make one hell of a fun target for the US Navy to have their new rail guns play with. Haven't seen the Navy really unleash on something for quite a while with their highly entertaining continent-destroying ability. It ought to look like a big demented kid kicking apart an anthill when it finally occurs.
