The federal government announced plans Wednesday to spend $40 million on a new coast guard base in St. John's, N.L., amid concerns that ongoing marine service cuts will risk lives.

    hmmm, must be an election coming up...,

    No doubt they'll cancel it after the next election but before they actually break ground. After re-announcing it at least 3 more times in the interim.
