Weak to moderate El Nino, I gather. I didn't know this was news. It was unseasonably warm along the west coast; I thought that was due to El Nino. Hopefully this will bring some relief to California.
"andyt" said Really? So how come this last winter we had almost no snow, very mild temps and lots of rain?
{Cracks knuckles}
Yes, that's very strange. It's too bad there were no that we'd see that sort of weather as we lose the arctic sea ice that possibly moderates our winters. The whole northern hemisphere has a unusually warm winter, except eastern North America. Just like there were no that losing that ice might cause really unpredictable and long lasting cold snaps, like they had out east this winter and last summer.
It's probably just a coincidence that this year we also had the lowest recorded arctic ice minimums.
But hopefully this el Nino brings wet weather to the west coast, like usual. They can really use it.

bullshit....this winter wasn't warmer than normal here, and I'm only about 700 km east of you.
And these graphics will show you that we are on the north western edge of that system. The system went all the way down the eastern seaboard, into Florida.
Sorry, that Discovery link was from the cold weather we had last winter. Here's a similar one, from this winter. It shows high and low pressure systems, associated with colder and warmer weather, respectively.

I don't give a shit about those places....I want some local warming around the 10° level.
I empathize, it was a bit of a chilly winter. But we didn't get the -30 and -40s we normally do. I think -28 was the lowest we had.
I also know that a local +10 degree warming for either of us would have disastrous effects on other parts of the world. I doubt many would survive the +60C or even +70C temperatures that would result from that. I would not want some of those already kicked in the nuts desert dwellers having to survive that.
Besides, they'd probably move here. And from what I can tell, they don't play well with each other.

There ya go again, always looking at the negatives.
Palm trees on Superior, the entire ME turned to glass. What's not to like ?

Notice the 'red' areas in Siberia and Europe.

Cold through through Eastern North America, warm on the west coast and Alaska, all the way through Siberia and Europe. Again.

As far as the locals moving, just say no.
