Alberta election 2015 results: NDP wave sweeps across province in historic win

It's a massive shock that has turned Canadian politics on its head. The NDP has won a majority government in Alberta and the former premier, Jim Prentice, resigned as PC leader and from his seat. Plus, there's a tie in one riding.

well, see Albertans had unprotected voting and ended up getting NDP.

In all seriousness people here are very tired and hearing the same thing over and over and yet, nothing has changed. Granted, I also wanted change, but I think most suspected that change would have been Wildrose, not a socialst economy killer.

Well, we get what we voted for...lets hope that the other NDP provinces do not prove any trends in this line of governments. All i know now is, my taxes just went up 5% off my GROSS and does anyone remember when the AB government tried to monkey with the royalty tax system last time?? anyone???

Look what happened this AM, oil is up, dollar is up but TSX is down 3 digits...business does not NDP governments and rightfully so, since most business die under NDP governments Just ask Ont, Man, BC, Sk if you don't believe me.

I foresee dark days ahead, very dark days.

In the oddest moment of the night my riding is in a dead heat, is going to a recount, and possibly even to a byelection. It turns out that for the first time in my life my individual vote actually mattered. I'm scared. Hold me. 8O

As someone who who lobbied on here for change, even I didn't think we'd get this much. 8O I was expecting at best a PC minority government - shows what I know.

I'm not too worried because the NDP can only screw up so much in four years and we can change it again in 4 years if they do.

Doug Horner said it best on CTV last night, the reason the PCs lost was that they moved too far from the centre and lost the progressive side of their conservatism.

That's why I doubt the Wildrose will ever form our government, unless it's a minority one. Sure people hate paying taxes, but most people also recognize that it's a necessary evil if you want hospitals, schools and roads. Jean's "I won't raise your taxes" message fell flat in cities and because of that, once again they were shut out of both major cities.

Smith was both right and wrong for crossing the floor. Morally is was wrong, but this election proves she was correct that the Wildrose Party isn't centrist enough to win in cities (and therefore form a government).

Should sell your story to the media if the NDP ends up winning.

    Hell has truly frozen over.

But at the 40 year single party democracy has ended.

I wonder how many ridings will have more votes than they do registered voters?

It doesn't show how the different polls of my riding were broken down.

    A crowd gathering with shovels?

If that were the case, I'd take Ralphie's advice to "Shoot, shovel and shut up!"

It was Ralph's gutlessness that ultimately led to last night's loss to the NDP.

If he hadn't brought in the flat tax, promised to get rid of health care premiums, handed out Ralph Bucks and worst of all, raided the Heritage Trust Fund for $15+ billion, the government wouldn't have been in the financial pickle it was.
