No, he's correct. Local governments and utilities everywhere have been playing a fairly two-faced game with homeowners that install their own solar panels. On one hand they claim they want to help, but on the other one they also bring down a lot of punitive fees and surcharges on anyone who does their own installation. In the US the jurisdictions that are controlled by the Tea Party types do it because anyone doing their own solar must be some kind of Commie who believes in global warming and is therefore anti-coal/oil and un-American. The more bureaucratic jurisdictions like Ontario are doing it simply to send a message that no one, even those who install solar and pump the excess they collect into the overall system, is going to be allowed to come off the grid and cost the utilities the money they make off of them.

It's a bad game, but in dealing with these kinds of institutions it's just standard operating procedure. No one except the one who always win anyway is going to be allowed to upset the apple cart, even if what they're doing with their own solar collection is one of the most absolutely responsible, reasonable, and logical things that a person can do.

While that was a fine rant, it doesn't apply much to anyone in Canada or Ontario. Installing solar panels in Ontario comes with very little resistance or fees.

I guess that one thing you can't do, and correct me if I'm wrong, is to force the utilities to buy your excess wind or solar energy.

& are two examples, with new fees & taxes being aimed at people who install solar panels, with anti-solar legislation being drafted by ALEC. ALEC = Koch brothers and Koch brothers = Tea Party. Not all that surprisingly really to see 'conservatives' suddenly in favour of new fees & taxes when said punishment is aimed at something that is openly hated by massa.

In both of your cited articles there's a few points:

1. Both issues are proposals and, like Canada's proposed navy, are unlikely to occur in their respective states.

2. Utility companies, not Tea Partiers elected to office, are behind both schemes and it is of no coincidence that they're pushing the hardest in two of the USA's sunniest states.

3. You are outraging yourself again.

Tea Party states, like Florida for example, also pull crap where the governor issues a memoranda where he threatens to fire anyone in the government that uses the term 'climate change'.

I stand by what I posted. It's an era now where policy doesn't even matter anymore. It's all about existential destruction of the enemy, and the enemy has been clearly defined as 'anyone who isn't us'*. If that means going after someone who's trying to do the right thing by installing solar panels at their home then so be it. Fact means nothing, just the culture war uber-alles.

So what? It's in his purview to dismiss his appointees as he sees fit. If I were governor and one of my ungrateful cronies dared to oppose me I'd fire him/her as well. Florida is not unique in this regard given that 49 other governors do the same thing.
