Cue the chorus on why natives are "overrepresented in the justice system."

While they do have high rates of incarceration for a reason, they also have an incredibly high rate of victimization at the hands of their own people. Sat down with an elder today(father and grandfather of students), who had been raped in the residential school and then spent most of their life in and out of prison further victimizing his own family, until he had an epiphany that only he could break the cycle. I have to admit that his story brought tears to my eyes, and he was the one who ended up comforting me.

There are some sad stories that came out of the Residential School inquiry too. Some tear jerkers I heard about. And that elder is right, only he can break the cycle now.

But the residential school history doesn't give natives a right to kill their own people and light them on fire in bus shelters. :(

No...it doesn't and natives need to face the reality that they are responsible for most of the crime that is committed on their own people, including murdered and missing aboriginal women. If you keep blaming others than there is no onus on you to change your own destructive behaviours.

I find it a little ironic too that video cameras from APTN were responsible for identifying the guy.

The two white guys who set a homeless man on fire and killed him are just coming up for sentenicng - so to make this a Native issue is off base.

Actually even tho they pleaded guilty, they got 18 and 20 years before parole eligibility.

First useful thing that useless excuse of an organization has ever done. Of course they put a spin on like this guy's great great Auntie was in a residential school somewhere and someone said something bad to her. Native ills 3 other natives, ewll of course it Canada's fault.

Just another case of people killing people which, will likely be explained away with the standard terms of limited socio economic opportunity and gov't induced poverty which, undoubtedly turned him into a murder. But, what will be completely forgotten is the fact that there's millions of other poor in this country who don't commit the same heinous crime and have had worse lives than this prick.

Maybe they can stuff him in a cell with those other two Winnipeg assholes and they can all have long cock contests about who's the better sociopath while enjoying spring mornings, sunrises, sunsets and silly things like being alive while knowing they have a release date even if they aren't, rehabilitated.

But, in the understatement of the week category folks, we have a winner:

"He needs some legal help," Brodsky said. "He's in a lot of trouble."?

    Ya think. ROTFL

I can see it now this guy will claim that his great Auntie came out of residential schools. so he killed three people because of , reasons.
