The Vietnam War hero Canada forgot

Pete Lemon's heroics that night won him the Medal of Honor, America’s highest military award, the first Canadian-born winner since the Second World War, plus a chestful of other baubles. Two Bronze Stars, two Air Medals, Purple Heart, Gallantry Cross ...

He's not our hero. If the US wants to adulate him, let them.

He's Canadian, thus he is a Canadian hero. But I'm not surprised that you think so little of him, while defending the likes of Khadr.

I hate agreeing with Andy on anything but he's correct on this one. Vietnam was an American war, not a Canadian one, therefore there should not be any Canadian award ever issued for service in the US military during that time period. I respect the reasons why this guy thought he needed to go, but that's about all. There should not be any official Canadian recognition for service in Vietnam or in any of the other Cold War proxy battles that occurred over the decades.

I never said he was deserving of any Canadian award, just that he was a hero, and is OUR hero.

But andylogic dictates only muslims Canadians get audulated for their foreign adventures as terrorists. Canadians who volunteer to fight for an organized military are to be ignored.

No dispute there. I always enjoy the antics of Canadians who do things like make l'il Omar or Ronald Smith on Montana's death row into 'the real victims', or laid the entire responsibility for that squirrely grifter bitch who ended up in a Mexican prison for fraud (and that CBC/the Libs/the Dippers turned into another innocent 'victim') onto Stephen Harper because of his unending 'malice'. It never stops because there'll always be a certain type of Canadian that thinks Canadian citizenship is somehow an entitlement that allows any Canadian to go outside the country, commit any sort of mayhem that they want to, and then come home scott-free. It's fucking disgusting IMO.

I'd rep you for this post if you still had them on.

The OP is about a campaign to give this guy a Canadian award:

Boynton, 32, who owns a concierge service for execs and sports stars, has launched a Facebook campaign to get Lemon considered for the Order of Canada.

I agree with Thanos and Andy - there shouldn't be Canadian honours for service in foreign conflicts that Canada didn't participate in. Otherwise, we'd have to give Orders of Canada to half of the diaspora from the former Yugoslavian countries.

Again, I never said he should get any Canadian award. What I contested was this,

Also, using yours and andys logic, I guess you just gave andy a reach around.

I don't' think so, because I wasn't piling on or responding to either one of you directly. And unlike you and Marty, my post consisted of more than one sentence and contained more substance than just a personal insult.

The reach-around occurs when one of you attacks someone and then the other jumps on the pile.

No, you just don't get it at all, do you? Where did political bent come from?

This young Canadian received the US Medal of Honor for valor and for gallantry and in doing so he represented the very best of Canada.

As I read it he certainly qualifies for the Order of Canada.

Disagree with the war if you will, but the recognition of this man should stand on its own merits.
