When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is going on a $130-billion infrastructure spending spree even as the province’s net debt tracks toward the $300 billion mark

Want to bet?!? Look at Alberta's system!
Nope. We're bad, with a bad good ol' boy system. But we're nowhere near as downright abysmal as Ontario is. It takes a special kind of lunacy, like something an apocalyptic cult-leader would think up, to generate a $300 billion debt for around 10 or 11 million people. Our spending was at least backed up by a commodity that's been riding high for the last decade until recently. We spent, yes, and didn't save properly at all, but for the most part we didn't mortgage the future with policies dreamt up out of thin air and literally hand the entire province over to lenders that charge a crippling interest rate. And industry and job creation have been growing in Alberta for the last two decades, not running away as fast as they could from the high taxes and massive increases in utility costs that Ontario's been doing over the same period of time. Alberta's no saint in anything but, compared to the shit Ontario's covered itself in, even with all our fiscal flaws we're like the Virgin Mary dressed in spotless white.

They know that the electorate will never hold them accountable therefore they have nothing to fear. Once someone's fearless there's no need for them to bother to disguise the contempt they have for the people that put them where they are.

I agree we aren't as bad as Ontario, but when they specifically take generators offline so they can charge higher rates because of 'shortages' ?
How about "We need to distribute electricity to people that don't exist, so we want the government to build a new province wide infrastructure, and pay for it. And we are going to bill our customers to use the infrastructure their tax dollars paid for!"
That's also a special kind of kleptocracy, right there. I'm sure if companies like Bruce Power and Direct Energy were running the show in Ontario, they'd find new and clever ways to screw shit up.

In Ontario, private generators are getting paid to NOT produce power. We have a surplus of generating capacity and yet despite that prices are still in a never ending increasing spiral that is far outpacing inflation (and most of our raises I'm sure).
I'm one of the first to have said that the way the deregulation was handled in Alberta was an absolute disaster, bad enough that it almost warranted criminal investigation and charges. Especially for the way that all the extra fees that never existed before under government ownership appeared out of the blue, had no justification at all for being implemented, and jacked up everyone's rates by at least 25%. Compared to Ontario though, with the way they destroyed everything just by taking the nuclear reactors out of the system and then with the gas plant schmozz? In terms of basic assholery and damage done Alberta's effort is like some loser dealing pot at a rock concert while what Ontario's done to itself is more like some gangster with a jetboat smuggling a thousand kilos of pure grade heroin from offshore and then selling it at an elementary school.

In times of abundance shouldn't prices fall?
Supply and demand! If the price is too low, cut off the supply! That's the Alberta way.

Na. they're laughing at all the idiots who voted them in.

And Enron's.
They must work on the food pricing principal that's been at play for the past number of years and states:
When gas prices rise food prices rise to pay for the increased cost of shipping but; When gas prices fall, food prices rise because the Canadian Dollar is worth less.
Anyway you look at it, it's a win win situation for someone other than the people paying the bills.

Can't be any worse than the government sanctioned extortion here. Ontarians pay more for power than almost anywhere else in Canada. More than Alberta.
