A Japanese maglev that is the fastest passenger train in the world has broken its own speed record.

    Now let's see them build it for real. Meaning a test section is nice, but it needs to be in production to really prove anything.

    It's Japan - watch them build it.
    Besides, again -its Japan - they eat fugu fish and have favorite suicide hangouts. Derailing at Mach 0.5 would be heavenly for many....

    Most of it will be built in tunnels. Imagine if they pressurized the train cabin like an aircraft, and evacuated the air from the tunnels! :) I bet they'd break the speed of sound. (not that there is sound in a vacuum)
