In The States the laws of the US and the State you are in are supreme and the laws that you follow.

When I go up North the laws of the Federal Canadian Government and the Province or Territory that I am in are supreme.

That is the way it should be on this side of the Atlantic.

Condemning the implementation of Sharia will elicit 'anti-Racism' protests. The intolerant will demand that we accept their intolerance.

In related news, a Florida town has officially banned the Devil from city limits and the mayor of some other village has passed a municipal bylaw outlawing Martian invasions.

What this law outlawed is already illegal. An arrangement that violates a persons rights is already null and void by definition. Hence you cannot willingly sell yourself into slavery. The whole "Sharia Law is coming" threat is just another right wing fear-based fantasy by people who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and are such cowardly scardy-cats they spend their whole lives jumping at their own shadow.

Sharia law or any other law that contradicts constitutional rights never has and never will be an issue in Canada. Even when jurisdictions have toyed with the idea of allowing religious institutions to adjudicate civil matters, the decisions had to comply with the charter and ultimately be signed off by an actual judge. And here in Ontario where religious adjudication was briefly permitted by the Harris Conservatives, McGuinty killed it about 10 years ago...contrary to what Shep claims about cries of racism preventing that from happening.

Who cares. The Hassidic Jews demanded the windows of a YWCA be covered so they wouldn't be offended by watching women in spandex. The Y complied until the louder complaints of the majority reversed the decision. Its people's right to protest about anything. Doesn't mean they get what they want. The problem is that we make special deals for Christians and Jews, then get bent out of shape when the Muslims want it too. The same people foaming about something the Muslims want, will foam when something the Christians want is threatened, like holidays. They want to turn back the clock to living in a Christian country. Just not going to fly in 2015.

Good point andyt, but last time I checked, at least in North America, no one threatened to kill or blow something up because they didn't get their own way (ie jews or 'insert of christian' here).

What was passed by the city was not a law. It was simply a municipal resolution supporting a house bill from the state that forbids any use of any foreign law to take precedent over existing law.

It was not even directed at Sharia alone. I'm going to suspect it would also apply to say, Mormon "Stakes" law, or Jewish Halakhah. But because the religion of the perpetual victim is there offering every lament short of desert yodeling, Shariah alone becomes what matters. Kind of makes you wonder though, if the resolution doesn't matter, and they have no chance of getting anything like Sharia anyways, what are they worried about?

Yep, just like Islamic violence was never going to be an issue in Canada. People just like you regularly "assured" us that Muslim violence would never happen here. One can only assume the opinion is based on some ideologically-based fantasy from people who spend their lives with their heads buried in the sand believing that we're just so fucking awesome that no one would ever want to commit acts of terror in Canada. I dunno, the Ontario Liberals confuse me. On the one hand they stomped on the idea of Sharia law in Ontario, and yet they also grossly violated the rights of farmers and rural property owners in order to shove turbines down Ontario's collective throat.

On the flip side, they allow part of Park Valley Middle School to be used as a Mosque for the students on Fridays, but get their panties in a twist over school prayers. Not that I agree with school prayer either.

You already are in a serfdom lol. It's called the Common Wealth of the UK. Oh by the way Sharia is alive and well in the UK, how's that for the Constitutional aspect and disrespect. We in US will not accept Sharia as Law and will fight it tooth and nail as illegal and against our foundations of freedoms. Both the US and Mexico are the only two non serfdom's in N.America.
