It could be the ultimate road trip — on a proposed superhighway that would wind halfway round the world and connect Russia and the U.S. The project fits Russia's imperialist ambitions, but a few glaring holes in the proposal have left some wondering if it

They call the dirt and gravel 'road' through most of Eastern Siberia - "The Road of Bones" because most of the political prisoners that built the road, died building it and are buried beside it.

I can't imagine the cost of paving it, and putting up real bridges and things.

Err not to mention the USCG might not be too happy. We have enough issue's in the Bering Zone.

Why is it every time I hear the terms, Putin, Russian, Siberian, North America, and connecting highway I always visualize hordes of T90's running down the Alaska Highway after stopping in Whitehorse for gas and snacks.

The only benefits of having Putin build this highway would be besides it being cheap it'd give all his political adversaries something to do while awaiting execution or exile.

I've been to Whitehorse, not much of both.

It would be a one tank wide shooting gallery, easier than fish in a barrel.

"The Road of Bones".....I think they call the Trans-Siberian Railway something similar due to the high death rate of the convict labourers from Sakhalin and other places used for building the railway. I would think the Canadian Pacific Railway would also have a somewhat similar title as it was estimated that four Chinese
workers died for each mile through the Fraser Canyon.
