Nora Fitzgerald, who had her sealskin purse confiscated by border control, says she'll think twice before accessorizing in the United States again.

    Endangered? There are 4 seals listed on the US engangereed list, and all 4 are Carribean seals. That fur looks like Harp seal to me?

    No, true that. They have the right as to who and what crosses their border, it just makes sense to me to be consistent.

    I don't think it has anything to do with the endangered species list.

    See below from the article (added emphasis mine):

    The U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) prohibits the taking of marine mammals, and puts a moratorium on the import, export and sale of marine mammal — along with any marine mammal part or product within the United States.

    Unless of course you plan on holding them captive in various "Sea Worlds" and making them do tricks for people, then it's perfectly acceptable.
