A paratrooper who showed "complete disregard" for his own safety during a Taliban attack in Afghanistan is awarded the Victoria Cross.

    Not quite the whole story:

    Each medal is made from the bronze of Russian guns captured at the siege of Sevastopol during the Crimea War, although modern research suggests Chinese guns may have been used at various times.

    True, and the jewelers to make the medals hate it because the hunk of bronze the use is of terrible quality.
