A Langford couple awoke to an intruder in their Leigh Road home early Saturday, leading to a “battle royale” between the 62-year-old retired Saanich firefighter and the would-be thief as West Shore RCMP rushed to the scene.

6 feet 2 and 259 pounds... I would have exited that house the first chance I got. 8O

“While we do not encourage the public to take matters into their own hands, we praise the swift actions of the homeowner,” said West Shore RCMP spokesman Const. Alex Berube.

Yes, we'd much prefer if you'd politely die instead of defending yourself and your loved ones.

Yah, f*** you, Alex. This guy was his first responder.

Why f*** you? What's he supposed to say? "Great job sir, I wish everyone would confront possibly dangerous home invaders!" That's just asking for a law suit when someone gets killed doing the same thing.

I'm sure the cops gave him all manner of off-the-record back slaps.

Agreed. Just across the harbour from here. Lots of kudos all around.

Just across the harbour from here.

Across the harbour, through the wilds of Colwood and on the other side the wastelands of Langford.

Officers statement was pretty clear as day that he was proud of the guy, but to cover his ass with the pencil pushers he had to toss in the company line as well.
