a judge found Neyazi was the victim of racial profiling and cops and airport staff unlawfully searched his checked bag.
Judge Patrick Smith tossed the charges in a decision released Thursday.

Despite the Border Services Agencies protestations to the contrary, racial profiling at the border is very much alive and well.
I spent nearly 2 hours at the Peace Arch Border crossing with my step son and brother in law after ending up in the US without intending to end up in the US (see other posts for long version of story) and for the record of all the people that the CBSA stopped we were the only white people in that building.
So, I'm guessing that this case isn't so much about the drugs as the fact that this judge has either seen the CBSA's practices first hand or been privy to information that has brought said practice to light and has decided to send a shot across the bow of an agency that hides behind it's political correct rhetoric while practicing something completely different.
Now with that being said, I have no problem with racial or any other kind of profiling at the border and wouldn't care if they personally put me on their list because, security of the country should definitely trump personal indignation and the vastly over played racism card.
So to the CBSA. Merry Christmas and carry on with the good work keeping dangerous people like me out of our great country because, you just never know.
You mean continue to collect as many fines and duties as humanly possible while pretending to defend us. Maybe its justice that they must sweat like hogs in their body armour while working in a secured zone at the airport.
I believe the story said it was CATSA, the rent a cops sub contracted by the feds to screen before you go into the secure area of the terminal. They then called the cops since they have authority to do actually very little besides deny entry to the secure area. They can't even demand to look in your bags. Their only trump card is if you refuse they kick you back to the public side. They have no peace officer powers and work for the same companies that guard your shopping malls. Guarda here in Winnipeg does it for CATSA. CBSA has no mandate to work or make arrests at that part of the airport, only incoming to the country.
Sounds likes the cops screwed themselves by commenting it was a racial thing. IF they stuck to it being that the guy was nervous, which he likely was, they might have nailed him. Another win for stupid technicalities.
Do we have to give him his drugs back?
Well they were his to begin with.........so yes.
