Its really tough not to stereotype Native reserves whit stories like this. :( The guy is charged with attempted murder, and sexual assault. And the little girl is described on local news as 'unrecognizable'. :( Just hurts the heart.

Sounds like a good candidate for the healing circle, and then a full discharge.

If by 'discharge' you mean 'ride the lightning' . . .

Any chance at all that liberal Canada and the Native politics won't turn this into another blame-whitey/blame-Harper moment even though it was just another goddamned out-of-control Native male that did it? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Bueller?

RCMP said they are not naming the suspect in order to protect the identity of the child.

Oh look, 8O they let that name slip out.

James Clifford Paul, age 21, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

    · S 239(1)(b) CC - Attempted Murder
    · S 273(2)(b) CC - Aggravated Sexual Assault
    · S 279(1.1) (b) CC - Kidnapping

RCMP Lays Charges in Assault on Young Girl

    Posted Dec. 22th 2014
The RCMP has laid charges in the serious assault of a six year-old girl that occurred on Saturday, December 20th on the Paul Band First Nation. The young girl continues to be treated in an Edmonton hospital for the serious injuries she sustained in the attack. The RCMP will not be releasing her name to protect
    her privacy.

James Clifford Paul, age 21, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

    · S 239(1)(b) CC - Attempted Murder
    · S 273(2)(b) CC - Aggravated Sexual Assault
    · S 279(1.1) (b) CC - Kidnapping

Mr. Paul was arrested by police on Sunday on the Alexis First Nation. He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear in Court on January 7th, 2015 on these matters.

“This arrest came about so quickly because local citizens picked up the phone and called investigators with the information they needed to take this dangerous criminal off the streets,” said Superintendent Gary Steinke, Officer-in-Charge of the RCMP Serious Crimes Unit. “Our focus now is on helping the victim’s family and community deal with the impact of this horrendous attack.”

The RCMP would like to thank the citizens of the Paul Band and Alexis First Nations who provided them with information that helped police locate and arrest Mr. Paul within a day of the incident. Dozens of RCMP officers from the Edmonton area worked on this investigation over the weekend with the assistance of Police Dog Services and the Forensic Unit.

    Insp. Gibson Glavin
    RCMP Edmonton, AB

Why? We don't have crimes like this in ROC?

We do. But Indiands are over-represented in virtually every type of crime. They are overrepresented in jail. Theyy have lower life expectancy, higher drop out rates.

It is either them, genetically. Or it is their environment. Or a combination thereof.

If you think it is them, gentically, I suppose that makes you racist, by definition.

If you think it is their environment then that makes you a libtard.

Or a combination--my particular view. Clearly first nations, genetically, respond, on average, with worse outcomes due to alcohol abuse and that has been traced to DNA. Reducing the population of first nations by 90% and putting them in residential schools where their culture was denied them adn pushing them off their land likely had a lot of negative impacts too.

I wouldn't be surpised if his is FAS. Some of the really horrible stuff comes down to that.

Everybody knows this. Stereotyping would be saying "they're all like that" which they are not.

    You think?

    Good chance.

Think about Metro Vancouver. How often do we hear about a sex crime like this in our reserves, vs Metro as a whole? Not sure stereotyping is warranted.

What a piece of absolutely horrendous evil.

Sometimes I'm not terribly surprised by Thanos' stance on the world.

Best wishes for the girl and her community. It really leaves you speechless.

Lots of evil in the world. Also lots of little girls having a happy time getting ready for Christmas, like the one I heard on CBC today phoning Santa and singing Rudolph - very touching.

If the guy has FAS/FAE, then he has brain damage and can't really be said to be responsible for his behavior, ie he's not evil.

He needs to be locked up forever, since he has no control over himself, and also can't learn different behavior because of the brain damage.

Of course he may have just been drunk - lots of people, not just natives, do stuff like this when drunk. He'll probably get a light sentence, since he's native.
