Israeli parliamentarians will honour Canada's sergeant-at-arms, Kevin Vickers, on Wednesday for the actions he took during the shooting last month on Parliament Hill.

We have the Hollywood BS heros of Rambo and Arnold Swarzanager but this is a real hero eclipses any of those false images. I am very proud of this fellow North American.

I find this odd. If the gunman had been anything but a muslim, convert or otherwise, would the Knesset still be honouring him?

I think they would. They don't appreciate having their soldiers randomly killed, nor do they tolerate terrorism - regardless of the ideology.

Hopefully Vickers declines. This looks more like some kind of propaganda stunt-booking by the Likudniks than anything genuine. I'm generally pro-Israel, and I probably wouldn't have a problem with this gesture if the Israeli government was controlled by someone other than Netanyahu. We're going to have enough problems with Muslims at home and elsewhere. No point in making it worse by having any Canadian involvement at all in the Israel/Palestinian midden.

I'm not so sure. Somehow I don't think they would have taken notice at all if the gunman had been Chinese, or Jamaican-"Canadian", or some crazy-ass White guy whacked out of his skull on meth.
