Ontario students exempt from Remembrance Day ceremonies

Damn fools, too many of these people let fear rule their lives, they want to wrap up everything they love or cherish and hide it away lest something evil may happen to it. These idiots must wear out a set of worry beads every month.

Are they f**king kidding??? Giving into fear on this scale is doing two things: 1) Lets the terrorists win, and 2) Tarnishes everything that this country fought for and stands for as a whole. Idiotic school boards and the pussies that run them. If we don't keep the traditions and lessons of this day alive from one generation to the next, not only will people forget, but they will learn NOTHING.

??? Kids are never in school on Remembrance day. Teachers claimed it has a holiday years ago.

Not in Ontario, which you'd have known if you'd bothered to read the article before diving into teacher-bashing mode. My kids' highschool had an AMAZING Remembrance Day program. Art, drama, readings, Legion colours, school band, video presentation...AWESOME. Organized by TEACHERS who clearly put in hours of rehearsal time, voluntarily, so that kids got a meaningful program. The gym was packed. Did every kid in the school attend? Likely not, but most. Will ANY of them attend a ceremony next year? Nope, schools will be closed. Blame that on Harper, not the teachers.

I remember it as a holiday when I was in grade school, high school I'm not too sure about.

We always held a Remembrance Day ceremony, the day before. It was an hour or two long, and when I was in high school there were still plenty of WW II and Korean War vets around to come and speak to the students.

In Winnipeg in the late 50's, early 60's Remembrance Day at school started as any other day, at 11:00am everyone was gathered in the auditorium/gym for Remembrance Day services. After that we were all cut loose for the rest of the day.

I don't support said plan. Kids should be in school learning about every facet of it. People in general will just turn this into another day to go shopping or something ridiculous. Some will still uphold the significance, but most probably won't.

WRONG!!! There are still kids in this country being brought up properly, there are kids out there who would attend the services out of respect for their fathers, mothers or grandparents. Some of these kids have probably lost relatives, so they would take the time to attend the services as a way to remember them. Not ALL kids these days don't give a damn.
