Nazir Afzal, the Crown Prosecution Service's lead on child sex abuse, said that the community has to acknowledge that a disproportionate number of Muslim men are involved in grooming girls.
"N_Fiddledog" said I like Mr Afzal's new attitude, but I can't help thinking "Where were you when we needed you?"
Listening to it today it sounds more like "OK boys, knock it off for now. The jig is up."
Is it a new attitude though? It appears to me that he's always sought justice for victims no matter the perpetrator. he's not afraid to call a spade a spade. It is true he doesn't think the Rochdale abuses a result of Islam, he is more than willing to call them race crimes. And yes we need more like Nazir Afzal and Maajid Nawaz from Quilliam
I'm not sure. It's just snot talk from me right now, but can you find mention of the guy before this...
As the Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North West, I led the teams that brought the so-called Rochdale Grooming Gang to justice in 2012 for abusing up to 47 girls.
Because it was around that time that I remember this issue being pushed into the news in a way the Progressive media could no longer control the story. By that I mean, even I began to hear about it.
Basically when I began to hear about it, Sikhs were massing in protest groups. A Muslim restaurant was ripped to the ground by a group of Sikhs. The EDL were screaming about grooming gangs at street rallies. The mainstream media outlets had to start admitting something was happening.
I started hearing about it sometime between 2010 and 2012. Show me Afzal's record as a reformer before that and I'll agree to start thinking of him as something other than "Damage Control Guy".
At first I wasn't sure what your point was. Those don't deal with the grooming crimes.
But then I looked at the dates and OK, I think I get it. He cut his teeth with the forced marriage and honour killing crimes, then when the grooming gang crimes went public in a way that could no longer be ignored, he was the obvious choice to deal with them.
But yeah, one could make the point he has history as a general crusader for justice, even when it's Muslims being prosecuted. One might also attempt the point though, that being Muslim, his is just the convenient face to put forward, when the issue inconveniently suggests itself into the public sphere. If the Beeb can't keep it quiet, bring out Nazir. That kind of thing.
I honestly don't know when the scourge of grooming gangs started to be honest. But yes. my point was that he seems to care not the creed or race. he is rather outspoken on FGM as well. and to be honest I'd much rather the scum be prosecuted with severe results by one of their own. A token prosecutor I think not though
That would be the difference between us then. I do care when the Muslim Grooming Gang phenomena was revealed publicly to a point something had to be done about it.
However, I can find no evidence based reason to believe Nazir himself is not sincere.
I do wonder why it took administrators so long to unleash the beast.
But yeah, I'll come clean. Getting snotty about Nazir personally was kind of Allinskyish, and I should blush. There's no evidence to suggest he personally was in on the scam to ignore.
Having said that though, I'll tell you this. He's not my hero. If he had been fighting somewhere earlier along the twenty years people have known about this problem I'd put him right up there on my hero list with Tommy Robinson, but he didn't, so I don't.
"GreenTiger" said There needs to be as Ismalic version o Vatican Council II where Islam like Roman Catholicism needs to be brought into the 21 Century.
It isn't likely to happen but it is needed.
21st Century?
Hell, I'd be happy if we could drag them kicking and screaming into the 18th.
Listening to it today it sounds more like "OK boys, knock it off for now. The jig is up."
