This will be an interesting legal fight. The league would like to keep amateur status, yet the teams pay loads of cash to players under the table. They also pay out "School Boy" packages to those who negotiate for one and are eligible once they finish. When my nephew played for the Windsor Spitfires a few years ago, some of his teammates were making up to $75,000 per year. Windsor was later fined $400,000 for violating league rules. My nephew was guaranteed $10,000/year for school after playing his first game. This kind of money is only for the top 10 players of the team at this level of hockey. The rest probably just get the road money etc. This level of hockey is big business and have bigger budgets and profits than some of the minor pro teams. Maybe the league's dirty little secrets will come to the surface and more of the money will be spread around to the supporting cast of players on the team.
