OTTAWA - Two of Canada's military cargo planes will soon be ferrying weapons to Kurdish forces in northern Iraq — and the Harper government sounds prepared to do even more to counter the "barbarous attacks" of hard-line Islamic milita...
After arming Kurdish forces, Petrolekas said, western nations will face a prolonged humanitarian crisis and a protracted battle — albeit through proxies — to extricate ISIL from northern Iraq and possibly even Syria.
Good luck with that. Who are these proxies who will take on IS and the Sunni militias? The Kurds, with our help can hold their territory, whole different deal trying to invade the Sunni territory. The Iraq army? There's a laugh. Face it, the middle of Iraq is gone. The only way to get it back is find a way to ally with the Sunnis there so they do the heavy lifting of getting rid of IS. They're going to have to be offered either a much better deal within Iraq, or just let them have their own state. I wouldn't blame the Sunnis one bit for being mistrustful of Baghdad and the US for a long time. At one time they were the US' ally in rooting out Al Qaeda in Iraq, until they got fucked over by the Shia dominated government that was supported by the US.
Want to blame Barry? Blame him for not putting pressure on Al Maliki much earlier to give the Sunnis and Kurds a much greater say in the country. He stuck his head in the sand there.
Sure, I hope they can take some goodies, but they would be insane to try to hold all of Sunni Iraq. Hope they can capture that dam IS took. But I do wonder about their staying power too. As the US knows, invading is a whole different deal than holding a country.
What's his name? Abu backstabr Al Baghedi, or something like that.
Unexpectedly: ISIS leader flees to Syria where U.S. insists he will be safe

Don't count the Kurds out. They'll fight pretty hard to capture the Sunni-held oil fields.
