    I don't get it. Was he HIV positive, and if so, why were some organs okay but his eyes were rejected?

    This makes no sense whatsoever.

    Why not? Degenerative eye disease? Who knows what the reason was?
    When kidneys, liver, heart and lungs were used, I doubt his being gay was an issue.
