I want his job. 100 people, not all on the reservation and it can afford 8 million dollar projects! Wow!

We all wish we had been victimized like that. And I think even First Nations people are starting to see the BS they've been fed all these years.

Interested to see if this abuse is widespread or not, as the numbers come out.

My understanding is that the bands were audited in prior to this transparency act. Did that not stand out in the audit?

It probably wasn't published. Also what good are fucking audits anyway? Unless it's a forensic audit, it never seems to change anything. We've certainly heard about other FN financial horror stories, did the audits stop that? Wasn't the Portland Hotel society audited? It seems we can have these festering pustules of financial scamming going on for years, their books are audited every year, but it takes the media finding out about it for something to be done. And what's done usually just involves hiding the scams better.

I guess we should be fair. Why should the natives act any differently than all the other people swilling at the govt trough - it's not like it's real money.

35 People live on the reservation. How can they afford an 8 million dollar project? Or better yet what was it for?

I wonder how much of the animosity that exists between the Gov and FN would exist if the corruptions in the system were removed.

The criticism launched by the UN regarding the "Deplorable" conditions of reservations might not seem so deplorable if the money was actually getting to were it is supposed to.

I am glad they shed light on this, big fan of the financial transparency measures.

It only stands out if people read the audits and act.

It's much easier to stick them in a desk and not say anything because of racism fears.

That's why it's time to cut them all off until they show the books, as a tax payer I'm tired of paying for this bullshit!

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times. It isn't just the natives at fault here it's also that giant gang of halfwit's running Indian Affairs who, should be taken out and shot with a ball of their own shit for allowing debacles like this and Chief Nutrisystem to happen at taxpayers expense.

The whole system is fucked and given these revelations it defies logic why they as a collective group of supposedly rational highly paid and intelligent bureaucrats failed to notice that they were giving a guy with less than a hundred people to administer nearly a million bucks of hard earned taxpayer dollars.

Before any government tries to repair the system they're gonna have to burn that whole department to the ground and start from square one with new people who aren't just there to pension up and enjoy life.

That would be Harper running Indian Affairs, or do you really think they make a move without his approval? This isn't the bureaucrats, this is the govt unwilling to stand up to the FN's, rather bribe them with tax money and hope they keep more or less quiet. Ain't gonna happen after the tsilhqot'in decision. The Harperites have at least tried to hold the line a bit vs the Libs, but not much. I will admit tho that this new policy of posting these things online is part of Harper's strategy of reducing support for the FN's. Good luck to him, he needs it.

And of course we can thank Trudeau for putting aboriginal rights in the constitution. The daughter of the chief who persuaded him to do so is now running as a star Liberal candidate, so we know how things will go if JT gets in. I just hope that Canadians wake up before we all have to start looking at our family trees to see what country might take us in as refugees, as we give the country away.

Canada's Indian Affairs is probably more fucked than the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. 8O
