Now, if there ever was a country worth of foreign aid it's Cambodia and the gentle people who inhabit it.

To bad the only time we hear anything about it is when it's something bad like people dying in a dark deep hole or people dying because of some dark, deep hole

Not that uncommon. Think about it--if you see someone drop, your natural instinct is to go see if the guy's OK. Oxygen deprivation hits you pretty much instantly, and you're disoriented. So down you go--then buddy comes along and sees two guys down. Repeat as necessary.

Happened here in BC at the old Sullivan mine a few years ago. Four people dead--bang, bang, bang.

Friend of mine did peacekeeping over there back in the early 1990's. Said the locals did things like digging up old landmines and putting them outside each others doorways to settle family feuds and other podunk disputes. Not surprising really. After what the Communists and American bombing did to them during the war and during the slaughter afterwards psychologically the place is probably still crawling with PTSD-crazed sociopaths.

First thing you are taught in Sour Gas training - get away from the gas. If your buddy drops, don't go back for him because he's already dead.
