Do you honestly think someone muttering a few words before killing your food makes any difference whatsoever?
Anyone can utter whatever magic words they want to religious or otherwise, what I don't like is the needless suffering to animals caused by these practices (Yes I include Kosher slaughter techniques).

We're a ranching family and we will NOT sell our cattle or bison for halal or kosher slaughter because it is so cruel!
This is the one big thing we agree with PETA about!

For some it must, otherwise why do it at all?
'There is a proliferation of unlabelled halal meat and derived products into the food chain,' says a spokesman for the Sikh Council.

Fair enough.
Then no one has to eat what they don't want to. Win win?

Most Texas Rancher's I've talk too also share the same.
The easy solution is to make labelling of "specially prepared" food mandatory.

Hey, yeah, why don't they do that? So easy. What's the problem?
Here's one possibility. Take lambs for example. Halal butchers only have to prepare lambs for 5% of the population that actually might require Halal, but they've managed to maneuver themselves into a spot where they handle 50% of the business. Will they want to give that up by putting a big, colorful, Halal sticker on every lambchop? Not likely. In fact why are you suggesting it? What? Are you some sort of Islamaphobe? (Just Kidding
Then forget about meat. Halal guys have managed to pressure Kellogs, Cadbury, and Campbell's into dealing with them. Put a big fat halal sticker on every box, Chocolate, or can and what happens?
Halal control requires a certain amount of subterfuge.
One must also remember there are Islamist charities that rely on tax from the Halal industries, and they must finance their share of the terrorist cause. Bombs aren't free you know, and it costs money to convert some idiot to wear the belts.
People always think it's just about bleeding the meat. It's not.

SO what you're suggesting here is the Muslims are engaged in some sort of racketeering? They force food companies to "go Halal" and then make them pay for the "privilege" of being Halal?
Yet anyone who criticizes the phenomenon of default halal risks being branded an Islamophobe. Yesterday’s Guardian was scathing of critics of Pizza Express’s crafty feeding of halal chicken to all its patrons. This was a simple case of food outlets making their products more “acceptable” in a “changing Britain,” it said. This is a newspaper whose columnists bore on about where their food comes from. Yet as soon as someone says, “You know what, I think I’ll pass on that chicken that had its throat cut while it was still conscious,” the Guardian accuses them of being Muslim-haters. Imagine if every Strada in Britain secretly started smothering its dishes in cheese from a settlement in the West Bank? Bien pensant types would be amassing Molotov cocktails.
The argument now seems to be that if you don’t want to eat halal meat then you’re Islamophobic. In short, not being a Muslim is now an act of Islamophobia. Strewth.

OK so that's how it starts. Ultimately 5% of the population controls 30% of the food industry in the UK, and that is expanding every day. The process is beginning here. Where does this lead? I have theories that work for me, but what I'm certain of is something is happening and there's more to it than just the question of whether or not it's cool to bleed your meat to death.
