Hmmm. I can appreciate the point of view of the First Nations in that they don't trust the government to manage their kids given that people are still alive who were personally abused by this same government.

No, I'm not 'taking their side' in this, I'm just noting that their objection isn't without substantial merit.

The problem is that the Natives abuse their kids far worse than they would be in white foster care - on the whole. In BC, the representative for children and youth, herself a native former judge, has pointed out how poorly trained FN social workers are, with no degrees, and how poor BC's oversight is for Native kids. So we get blamed no matter what, either for poor oversight or for being paternalistic. BC pays for social services on reserves. As far as I'm concerned they either meet same (already piss poor) standards as off-reserve or we wash our hands of the whole deal and let the Feds take care of it. AFAIK it's a federal responsibility.

That's fairly convenient considering it's liberals like you that have effectively paralyzed government response to situations like this with the screams of "racism!" that you and your best buddies in the Native leadership engage in all the time. The politicians are scared to act because they know they'll be smeared as racists if they attempt to do anything. The police, thanks to being backstabbed by the politicians at Oka, Ipperwash, and Caledonia, don't want to act anymore because they know they'll be crucified by social liberals and the media regardless of what they do. The entire damn problem is nothing but the fault of liberals and the handcuffs they deliberately put on both the political system and the police forces.

And there are certainly worse things than racism, as Phoenix Sinclair and every other Native kid who unjustly died at the hands of their abysmal and utterly shitty parents unfortunately had to find out. I think the problem is there is no one from the FN on this board to actually tell their side of the story. If I were to believe just what I read n this board about them ( and to be honest this is the only place I ever do hear about them ) it pants a pretty grim picture, but something tells me there is more to it than just that.

It's a mistake to think that the "sides" on the issue are "FN" and "non-FN". That isn't where the lines should be drawn. It does a disservice whose who are at risk and could sink any chance of making things better for them.

I agree it's racist to treat indigenous people at a different standard. That is why then need to be held to the same standard as everybody else. No other group gets their own child welfare system.
