The Vancouver Canucks fired general manager and president of hockey operations Mike Gillis on Tuesday, less than a day after the team was officially eliminated from the playoffs for the first time in six seasons.
It's a sad day for all the rest of the General Managers in the league. With Gillis gone there's no other General Manager in the league willing to give up elite talent for next to nothing.
As for getting rid of Tortorella, good luck guys. Unless Aquilini wants to eat another 8 million dollars along with the genius' contract, he's gonna get at least one more year. But, the best part is, Gillis, Tortorella, and Luongo are all guaranteed enough money to fuel most third world countries economies for decades.
The Canucks are about to sink back into that mediocrity they made a staple of for 30 years.
Firing the general manager is what I would have done too, if I was an Aquillini.
I'm thinking the team should go in a totally different direction with this.
A good start. Now Tortorella needs to go and the proper rebuilding can begin.
You sound very much like a Leafs fan for the past 40 years.

I was also thinking that Torts would be toasted but I guess we shall wait and see what the new GM decides to do with that.
And in other news, Trevor Linden was named head of hockey operations today.

They're not just fans anymore. "Leafs Nation" is a cult like the Moonies.
